INFORMATION ABOUT VRYBURG
Vryburg became the capital town of the Republic of Stellaland in 1883. Vryburg citizens were called “Vryburgers” (free citizens) - therefore the name of the town. Vryburg is the agricultural and industrial centre of the North West Province. The hosts an annual agricultural show and cattle sales are held here every Friday of the week.
Camping Sites: There are camping sites like Swartfontein and Boereplaas in the area.
San Rock Art: Some good examples of San rock art can be viewed in the area. Road signs along the Schweizer-Reneke Road indicate their locations.
Ghoor Shopping Centre: The Ghoor Shopping Centre is named after the owner of the town's first convenience store.
Leon Taljaard Nature Reserve and Museum: The Leon Taljaard Nature Reserve and Museum, 5 km from town, offers excellent picnic and accommodation facilities. A large variety of animals and birds have found a home within the reserve. Enjoy the appealing combination of nature and history.
Arnold Theiler Agricultural Museum: The Arnold Theiler Agricultural Museum provides insight into the lives of the farmers of yesteryear, those admirable pioneers who took it upon themselves to tame the land for future generations. The museum was named after Sir Arnold Theiler in honour of his contribution to cattle disease research.
Graveyard Concentration Camp: The “Kerkhof” (Graveyard) Concentration Camp dates back to the Anglo-Boer War.
St. Stephen’s Anglican Church: The beautiful St Stephen's Anglican Church is near the town centre.
Tiger Kloof Educational Institution: Tiger Kloof is a group of stone buildings erected by the London Missionary Society In 1904. These buildings have been fully restored and now serves as an educational institution. Tours can be arranged by the school.
Town Hall: The Stellaland Flag on display in the Town hall is the original flag of the short-lived Stellaland Republic. Its history includes having been presented to Queen Victoria as a gift and hanging in Windsor Castle until 1934, when King George V returned it to Vryburg. Voortrekker Monument: A Voortrekker Monument was erected in 1938 to commemorate the Great Trek of 1838.
Vryburg Hospital: Vryburg Hospital was built in 1892 in an unusual combination of Victorian and Voortrekker architectural styles. The newly built Vryburg Hospital is on the Kuruman road near to the Vryburg Fire brigade.
Old Vryburg Prison wall: All that now remains of the old Vryburg prison of 1887 is the Prison Wall.
War Cemetery: The women and children who died in the Anglo-Boer War concentration camp are buried in the War Cemetery
